A Planned Community is any community that was carefully conspired from its inception, including the aesthetic of our streetscape. This is a major benefit for our homeowners with the resale of their home as well.
Home ownership is often a long-sought dream. The excitement to build and personalize a home can overshadow thoughts of resale down the road. Amelia Laster, AKBD weighs in on our Planned Communities.
I know when my husband and I bought our first home, we imagined forever; 16 years later, we’re in our 5th forever. And then there’s the process of selecting an exterior combination that works on a house that’s the size of, well…a house, from samples that are 24″ or smaller. Its daunting!
After several years of research, seminars, and first hand accounts of how other builders had implemented exterior planning, we tested it in our Newburgh market in two different communities and both were a success.
Ultimately, it is the homeowners, both current and future, that receive the full benefit of Exterior Planning. All of the color schemes have been professionally coordinated and then assigned to home sites in a pattern that alternates color pairings to create an overall pleasing aesthetic as you move down the street.
The Color Schemes were created to have rotating palettes in a way that we can assign a community with a certain number of home sites, and avoid a repeated color combination.
So, each homeowner will build a new home that has a professionally-designed exterior and peace of mind that none of their surrounding neighbors will have the same home with the same colors. There won’t ever be “that house on the corner” when it’s time to resale.

Exterior Planning Makes Your Home Buying Process Easy
Each color scheme has an assigned stone color and horizontal siding color, and then three to four accent colors to select from for shake and/or board and batten, depending on the homeowner’s preference. The homeowner can then select from our Designer Coordinated Palettes for their brick and mortar, trim, shingles, exterior door colors, and more!
There’s still plenty of personalization to be done by the homeowner, and we’ve made it even easier to make those personal choices with our new exterior rendering feature.
The color schemes are listed on our website in the exact same way they are assigned in our communities.
Buyers can log in and look at all of the available schemes prior to meeting with one of our New Home Sales Consultants. If their exterior is more important to them than their home site, then they can walk into their scheduled appointment with their scheme of choice and see which home sites are available.
After introducing Exterior Planning about a year and a half ago, we’ve found the majority of homeowners are relieved to not have to make all of the exterior choices!
After the first couple of communities we tested with Exterior Planning, it was evident that a process was going to have to be established on assignments to make sure each community was consistent. Every exterior finish we offer was audited and then grouped by coordinates. Coordinates were then grouped into palettes and assigned to schemes.
Our goal is for prospects, homeowners, and all of our associates to know our Schemes by name and for it to be a fun part of the Jagoe Homes personalization process.

The lower a home scores on RESNET’S HERS (Home Energy Rating) Index, the more energy efficient it is. A standard new home that’s built to meet the 2006 IECC will score a HERS Index of 100. New Jagoe homes score an average of 62, making them at least 38% more efficient than a standard new home and at least 68% more efficient than a used home.
